Pelican Days of Summer

It’s been a banner couple of days for pelican sightings here in my little stretch of Monterey Bay. Yesterday’s feeding frenzy at sunset inspired me to go pelican hunting with DSLR today, with mixed results but a lot of photos of surf and waves and I had a great time being a photographer for a couple of hours.

This shot was a quick one, as I was driving on West Cliff when I spotted a flock of pellies heading north just past Steamers. I pulled into a parking lot, pulled out the camera, and got to the railing just as they flew by me.

Sometimes the best photographs are all about luck and timing. I had both, at least once today.
